GERI
NEWS
All the Testing Laboratories of GERI upto district level have ISO 9001:2008 accreditation for testing engineering materials with validity upto 15.05.2011.
Tapi River Mega Model from Ukai Dam to its Confluence with the Sea:
GERI has been entrusted the work of physical model study of Tapi River to assess inundation effect and work out flood protection measures for Surat city, nearby area, the d/s industrial area etc. for release of various discharges including flood hydrographs upto peak of 16 Lacs cusecs. The effect of neap and spring tide situation with flood in the Tapi River will also be assessed. CWPRS provides technical guidance and consultancy services for Automatic Tide Generation unit of the model.
The interim report of the study without Automatic Tide Generation is already submitted to Government.
Physical Hydraulic Model for Kalpasar Project:
The Government of Gujarat has taken up a gigantic fresh water lake to be created by closing the gulf of Khambhat (in the Arabian Sea) across Ghogha in Bhavnagar District & Hansot in Bharuch District and thereby harness the excess water of Narmada, Mahi, and Sabarmati & Dhadhar River.
Government of Gujarat has decided to carry out the
physical model study of Kalpasar Reservoir as well as
various components like spillway, reservoir, navigation system, etc., at GERI,
Vadodara. Model study shall be carried
out in consultation with the experts engaged by Kalpasar
Department.
Modernization, Up-gradation and Enhancement and Improvement of facilities at GERI
Modernization, strengthening and up-gradation of GERI Laboratories :
Geotechnical centrifuge facility in the form of Geotechnical Centrifuge Machine has been procured and installed in the Soil Mechanics Laboratory at GERI, Vadodara, which facilitates testing of small scale models in a laboratory, especially with material of unknown stress- strain behavior. Important problems relating to earthen dams, tunnels, offshore foundations, seismic studies of earth structures and foundations can also be tackled using centrifuge modeling.
Equipments such as Trinocular Polarizing Microscope with photographic equipment with computer interface, digital balance and some other equipments like mould, permeability apparatus, Atterberg Limit, Sieve shaker have already been procured and installed.
GERI has recently procured Universal Testing Machines (UTM) for Geo-textile and Geo-Fabrics, which facilitates testing of Breaking Load, Elongation, Trapazoidal Tearing Strength, Puncture test, Wide Width Tensile Strength, CBR Push as per relevant ASTM & BIS.
A newly microprocessor based Digital Universal Testing Machine having 2000 kN capacity is installed @ GERI, Vadodara. It has wide range and variety of testing application for number of materials and metals in different forms and shapes. It is capable of conducting following tests on construction materials as per relevant national & international standards.
Compression Test : For Cement, Building Brick, Building Stone, Paver Block Concrete Cubes etc.
Tension Test: For metals & non metals.
Transverse Test: For Tiles and Concrete Beam.
Bend and Rebend Test: For Steel.
Necessary tests will be carried out primarily on trial basis and as such no test fee will be charged at present.
Renovation and modernization of Library of GERI is done. Around 300 new books on various subjects are purchased. Computerization of GERI library is done. List of Books in the GERI Library are displayed on the GERI web site www:gerionline.org
Management Information System (MIS) is being implemented using MS Dynamic AX
@ 80 new computers have been installed in GERI.
R&B Department has sanctioned the provision for the construction of new buildings for Laboratories of GERI at Godhra, Valsad, Bhuj and Sectional Laboratory at Dahod.
