PREFACE
Gujarat Engineering Research
Institute
(GERI) Vadodara is prime Engineering Research
Institute working under Narmada Water Resources
and Water Supply Department in Government of Gujarat,
GERI made an humble beginning
as a small sub divisional unit in 1950 and at present it has blossomed into full fledged
institute with twenty two research divisions. The institute provides useful
services in the fields of investigations,
testing, consultancy, training, Quality
control
and R&D in Engineering
works.
A library plays a
very vital role in research
works and therefore GERI has progressively developed a huge and rich library since
1960. It possesses about 32,500
books, proceedings, standards,
etc.
The library is subscribing about 55 Indian & foreign titles of technical journals every year.. As the library reached to its 4th decade, some previous & unattainable books,
proceedings & papers are also preserved with the recent literature. the enormous
increase
in the documents, their problems of dissemination & retrieval of information enforced us
to computerize the library.
Technical
Committee
on Water Resources
Department
(TCWRD) and technical committee on Roads & Building (TCRB) were
informed regarding huge
holding GERI's
library and were requested to proper utilization by al the Government
Engineering Departments a as and when required. Moreover the idea was to link up
all the Government technical libraries of Gujarat through computerization. The
GERI's library is also referred by other Government & Non-Government technical
Institute academic institutes over & above 300 members of Library.
I hope that this booklet
will eliminate mistake & duplication of tasks.
It will
be feasible to provide accurate & instant information
to cope up with the demands of researchers, scholars and field officers.
It is an extension
of library service beyond the library peripherals and participation
into outside networking system
for the information sharing. In short it will help in proper utilization of
library materials.
GERI tried to compact
this huge
records and compile in a
volume. The volume covers 38 different
subjects
for easy access
of the required
literature. Each subject covers two sections. viz. books and proceedings. An up
to date list of
magazines acquired
by the library is also included
in this volume.
I hope this will be
most
helpful to all the users who seek the literature in their subject fields.
